LockVocab · Last updated: October 2026

LockVocab is a vocabulary app that works mostly on your device. Our principle is simple: your learning history stays on your device; we don't need an account, we don't collect data that identifies you, and we don't track you.

What we collect

We do not collect personal data that identifies you. The app doesn't ask you to sign up or log in, and it doesn't create an account. Only after you allow "AI word fill-in" do the English words and the text recognized in your photos pass through our server (see "AI word fill-in" below).

To learn which features are used and what to improve, we collect anonymous usage statistics through TelemetryDeck — for example which features you use, how many lock screen wallpapers you make, the app version and the device model. This data contains no name, email, contacts, photos or location, can't be linked to you, and is never used for advertising or tracking.

Where your data is stored

Your learning history (known / unknown marks, favorites, custom words and words you add yourself, word progress, wallpaper style settings, and background photos you upload) is stored only on your iPhone and is never uploaded. Deleting the app removes all of it.

When you add words with "Import from photos", the photos are only read on your phone to find the text (English words and any meanings printed next to them). The photos themselves are never uploaded and are not saved separately.

Network connections

Learning words and making lock screen wallpapers don't need the internet. The app only connects when:

AI word fill-in

When you add your own words, the app can ask AI to fill in the part of speech, pronunciation, meaning and an example. When you import a vocabulary page from a photo, the meanings printed next to the words are sent too, so the AI writes examples for that meaning; the printed meaning itself is kept as is. With photo import, the text recognized on the whole page — never the photo itself — is sent for the AI to sort out: on a word list the AI picks the words and matches the printed meanings; on an English article it picks the words worth learning and uses the article's own sentences as examples. This works the same in every interface language; without a connection, or if the AI doesn't answer, the app uses what your phone read. Before the first use, the app shows the explanation below and asks for your permission. If you don't allow it, nothing is sent — you can still fill words in yourself, and photo import only brings in words from our library. You can turn it on or off anytime in Settings → AI auto-fill.
